Tracking Codes

DigiResults allows you to add tracking codes so you can record which promotions or traffic sources have been successful.

Types of tracking

There are two independent types of tracking codes – campaigns which are designed for tracking individual mailings and promotions; and traffic sources which are designed to track how you acquired a customer for non-affiliate sales.

Campaigns

Campaigns are great for both vendors and affiliates. You can use via specially crafted links in your promotions to identify which styles of mailings to your lists gather the most clicks and more importantly which make the most sales.

Campaigns are usually short lived and change from mail to mail meaning one customer will often go through many campaign links. A sale will be counted against the campaign of the last tracked link that customer visited.

Traffic Sources

In addition to the short lived and frequently changing campaign tracking you can track at a second independent level called traffic sources. These are designed for vendors who use paid traffic sources such as solo ads or PPC and want to compare how different ad versions or ad networks stack up.

You can add a special parameter to the in-link that will be associated with a customer when they optin to your list, click on a non-affiliate in-link or buy any of your products. The source tracking is only changed if they go through another tracked source.

How do I add campaign tracking for my affiliate promotions?

Tracking codes can be added to any affiliate link with the minimum of fuss.  Just add “/t/” followed by a unique tracking code.  Your tracking code can be any combination of letters and numbers up to 32 characters long.

For example, if you were promoting Digi Traffic Accelerator you would

  • Locate the product in the marketplace and get the affiliate link.(e.g. https://www.digiresults.com/aff/1523/1 where “1523” is the product ID and “1” is the affiliate ID)
  • As the affiliate, you would just add the tracking code to the end of the affiliate link.  So if you wanted the tracking code to be “mail1” you would have a final link of https://www.digiresults.com/aff/1523/1/t/mail1.

Campaign codes are not unique to a listing so make sure you use something suitably identifiable.

How do I add campaign tracking for my own product promotions?

Vendors can use DigiResults to track mailings of their own product too – you just have to use the special in-link for your product:

  • Find the product in the marketplace and get the affiliate link (it will have “aff_id” in red as a place holder).
  • As a vendor, you need to remove the affiliate ID and replace it with a campaign code. For example, if you wanted to track a campaign called “dta-m1″ the final link with the tracking is http://www.digiresults.com/aff/1523/t/dta-m1.

Using this form of link won’t interfere with which affiliate gets paid so you can happily use tracking codes on lists generated from a squeeze page.

How do I add a source tracking link?

  • Find the product in the marketplace and get the affiliate link (it will have “aff_id” in red as a place holder).
  • As a vendor, you need to remove the affiliate ID and replace it with a source code. For example, if you wanted to track a campaign called “ppc-a-v1″ the final link with the tracking is http://www.digiresults.com/aff/1523?dr_source=ppc-a-v1

Can I have both campaign and source tracking on the same link?

Yes. You can use source tracking with any DigiResults sales page links, for instance www.digiresults.com/aff/1523/t/dta-m1?dr_source=pp-a-v1 will show up in both your source tracking code reports and tracking code reports section. You can even use this with discount codes, for instance www.digiresults.com/aff/1523/c/sale?dr_source=pp-a-v1.

Where can I check how my links are performing?

Navigate to Reports -> Tracking codes.  On this screen you will see how many clicks, sales and refunds have been generated via each link with a tracking code split out by campaigns and by tracked traffic sources. These statistics give you a clear insight into which links are performing best, helping you to spend your time wisely when promoting products, writing mailings, and buying ads.
